I officially am only two exams away from finishing the semester at Curtin, after which I'll be researching and writing my ICRP. This past week has been pretty crazy in every aspect. I completed many assignments, most of which are essays, said goodbye to teachers and classmates, finished watching every episode of the TV show 'Gilmore Girls,' and met many new friends at the tav and end of the year bashes. It feels so good to submit my assignments--but it'll feel amazing when I get those exams done.
Writing papers has always come together for me but I'm still anxious about writing the ICRP. We haven't gotten feedback on the prospectus (a fancy word for proposal), but meetings with my adviser start next week. I would like to feel more confident in my topic before I start writing/researching/interviewing. I hope to write about how people interact with their natural environment: how they perceive and treat it, how they relate to climate changes and other environmental problems, how they receive information about the environment, especially if it is local. I guess I also want to learn about green jobs and career paths in addition to how people are involved in their own communities. This all entails research particular to WA/Perth, which may be hard to find, but I'll also be interviewing my co-workers.
SERCUL has been great--as always. This morning I made 200 give away bags for a charity event. I took some of the stickers and temporary tattoos as mementos. In the afternoon I worked at the Anvil Basin site--completely redeveloped from a channel to a basin. I dug up and pulled out weeds that were about my size. It was really tough work in the heat. Sunday was the hottest day I've had in Australia so far, which means outdoor work will just get more difficult. Still fun though.
I'm also really looking forward to spending a near month on the beach and traveling. It's been my dream to go to the Great Barrier Reef and it's all coming true. It'll also be nice to have 4 months off of school before diving into preparing for my SIP. Since when am I almost 2/3rds of the way done with my junior year?
Your ICRP sounds fascinating and very important research. Hope to read it. Enjoy your last days, Christine!!!
