Hi there!
Well I'm not sure who I'm checking in with...but I am updating for sure. This past summer was interesting and strange. I interned for a non-profit company in Chicago and still am unsure about what progress I made there. It was one of the first experiences that I set goals for myself and others and almost none of them were completely met. I'm now writing about it in my SIP--my senior thesis.
I am back at Kalamazoo in a new house I am renting with two of my best friends. I'm preparing volunteering with three student organizations on campus, applying for on- and off-campus jobs (mostly in the food service industry), and generally getting my life together. Tomorrow I'm picking up my mail, shopping for athletic shoes, applying for jobs, testing to drive a 14 passenger van, buying textbooks and donating odds and ends...and of course writing. I have 23 compiled pages single spaced. Note: compiled does not mean actual English writing. It will all be turned in on the 14th, maybe sooner.
I'm excited to start the year, at least once I turn in my SIP. I live on the Kal-Haven trail and expect to bike and run quite a bit. I'll study and take the GRE and also plan likewise for post-grad plans. I have made this elaborate plan that depends on getting accepted for a 1 year working/holiday visa in Australia.
I will go west to Seattle to visit friends, travel south to Portland and Salem, then further south the San Luis, CA, hopefully San Francisco, and fly out of Los Angelos. I may travel once I get to Australia, starting in Melbourne, maybe going to Taz (Tasmania!!), Adelaide, and then finally to Perth! I'm already planning road trips--prematurely of course--once I'm there with my mates.
So guys, I've got plans. And I am happy about them. I no longer feel sad when I look at my photos from Australia--only nostalgic and motivated to be back. But first, one more year here. My senior year. My final year. Cheers to that!!
